Art was not always my chosen path. Even when seasoned artists saw something in me and declared, “You’re an artist,” I resisted the idea. I couldn’t see myself in that role, nor did I believe that creating could be my calling. Yet, over time, the act of creation found its way into my life, and I discovered its power to awaken my spirit. Today, I can say with certainty that creating makes me feel alive—it’s no longer just something I do; it’s who I am.

As I embraced this journey, I recognized a deeper purpose in my work: to serve as a modern-day griot, a storyteller for my culture. Through visual art, I aim to shine light on stories that have been overlooked or misrepresented. Each piece carries a narrative, a history, or a truth that deserves to be seen and felt. By using vibrant colors, intricate collages, and ornate frames, I aim to capture the richness and resilience of my heritage. My art speaks to the soul, connecting past, present, and future.

Reclamation is at the heart of my art. By working with reclaimed materials, I transform what others might see as forgotten or discarded into something meaningful and enduring. My art is not just about creating beauty; it’s about preserving legacy, celebrating identity, and inspiring others to see value in what has been overlooked. This act of restoration mirrors my mission to preserve and honor cultural legacies, breathing new life into what might otherwise fade away. Through my work, I strive not only to create visually striking pieces but also to inspire a deeper connection to the stories, resilience, and beauty of my culture.
